About This Weather Project
Welcome to our little local weather site! This project was created to give Preston Capes and surrounding villages a friendly, familiar way to check the weather each day — no apps to download, no national forecasts that don't reflect our countryside microclimate.
Each morning, this site automatically posts a new weather update, complete with:
- A short, conversational forecast summary
- A unique, AI-generated image inspired by the day's conditions
- An archive of past forecasts to browse at your leisure
How It Works (Behind the Scenes)
This project uses some clever technology to pull everything together:
- It starts by gathering real-time forecast data from a hyperlocal weather station based right here in the village.
- That forecast is then passed to OpenAI's ChatGPT, which turns it into a friendly, natural-sounding summary — just like you might hear over a garden fence.
- Then, another tool called DALL·E uses the same forecast to imagine a scene that reflects the day's weather. It creates a brand new image each time — sometimes a photo-style view of the countryside, sometimes something a little more artistic or whimsical.
- All of this is handled by a bit of custom code that quietly gets on with the job every morning.
Why?
The aim is to make the weather feel a little more personal — something local, a bit playful, and hopefully a little bit delightful.
Thanks for visiting!
